The UF Mindfulness team and guest teachers have taught multiple workshops and mindfulness practice sessions.

Art & Mindfulness -
Spring  2022

The Harn Museum of Art and the UF Mindfulness team have created a new program, to be held in person at the museum. This series of guided meditations is inspired by art in the Harn collections. Take a break from your regular schedule to slow down, experience stillness, and re-charge. Forty minutes of guided meditation is followed by an art spotlight tour. The sessions are open to the general public, Gainesville and regional community, and UF students, faculty, and staff. Free of charge with appreciation for teachers.

360° Mindfulness Workshop - Spring Semester 2022

Online in Zoom (UF authentication required).

In this  workshop  we practice mindfulness meditation and various mind-body practices in 360 degree fashion.  Novice and experienced mindfulness practitioners are welcome to join. The workshop is offered at no cost to UF students, staff, and faculty members.  The aim of the workshop is to build a community of practitioners who share interest in mindfulness. The exploration of mind, body, heart/emotions, vital energies, and consciousness provides profound insights into our way of being, how we interrelate with each other, and ultimately shape the world. The goal is to discover how mindfulness can be embodied to boost fullness and aliveness.  You will learn mindfulness meditation and other somatic practices in a trustful and safe environment from skillful teachers. The sessions are not recorded to provide a personal and intimate container to share experiences and dialogue.  

Only register once for all sessions in spring semester.

Zen Workshop 2021

January 31, 2021 (1:00 pm to 3:00 pm).

Join Valerie Forstman Roshi, guiding teacher at the Gainesville Retreat Center, for an introduction to Sanbo Zen and its root practice: zazen. Zazen, or silent meditation, is a time-honored practice to cultivate seeing into the true nature of your being, Valerie will offer background information on the origins of Sanbo Zen, comment on how this practice can inform and enhance your everyday life, give tools and guidance to get you started, followed by zazen practice and time for questions and answers. Links will be provided for ways you can easily continue and deepen your practice through local group sitting with Florida Sanbo Zen and other resources. If you've been curious about Zen, starting a meditation practice, or are already a practitioner from any tradition, this workshop will complement your journey of inner exploration.

This workshop was taught as part of the UF Health Integrative Medicine Conference "Flow: Mind, Movement, Energy & Integrative Pain Management".

Somatic awareness involves witnessing “from within” in an ongoing communication between the body and mind, between the inner
world and outer world . In this workshop we explore embodiment, disembodiment, somatic meditation practices, and the relation between mindfulness and bodyfulness.

4H Workshop "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life" 2018

Seed workshop for teenagers. We explore how mindfulness practice can change the brain. Neuroplasticity is real! How you train the neurons in your brain and body (like your gut) shapes how you show-up in the world and relate to other people.
